Be a Precinct Committee Person / Precinct Leader (PCP/PL)

Precinct Leaders serve a two-year term; they are elected either during the Precinct Caucus, by their precinct members, or appointed by the Party Chair. If you are a registered Republican at least 22 days prior to the Precinct Caucus and reside in the precinct, you are eligible to become a Precinct Leader.

What is a PCP?

Precinct Committee Persons play a vital role in local politics, particularly in grassroots efforts to engage with voters and strengthen political parties at the community level. For the Denver Republican Party, PCPs serve as a bridge between the party and the voters in each precinct.  Denver County needs passionate, committed volunteers to become PCPs/PLs to represent the Republican Party in our county neighborhoods. If you would like to serve in this way, please contact us today. We’d love to have you on board!

Our founder, Abraham Lincoln, stated "the whole union must be so well organized that every Whig can be brought to the polls...so divide the country into small districts and appoint in each a committee. Make a perfect list of the voters and ascertain with certainty for whom they will vote. Keep a constant watch on the doubtful voters and have them talked to by those in whom they have the most confidence. On Election Day, see that every Whig is brought to the polls.

Those “small districts” that then-Whig-Party-activist Lincoln wrote about in 1840 are now called “precincts,” the basic unit of our political system. It is at the precinct level that elections are won or lost – even statewide and national elections. Every vote matters. And it’s the Party’s heroes, the PCPs working to turn out those voters, who determine the outcomes.

What does a Precinct Committee Person Do?

Typical duties include:

  1. Engagement and Outreach: PCPs connect with voters in their precinct, ensuring that they understand the party's platform, values, and goals. They encourage voters to participate in elections and support Republican candidates.

  2. Build Relationships: By working closely with constituents in their area, PCPs foster relationships that help the party stay in tune with local concerns and priorities. This can help the party tailor its messaging and policies to better resonate with the community.

  3. Educate Voters: PCP/PLs often help educate voters about important issues, candidates, and the voting process. They may organize events, distribute literature, or host meetings to provide information and rally support for the party.

  4. Recruit and Coordinate Volunteers: PCPs are essential in recruiting new members and volunteers to support the party. They can help organize events, fundraisers, and outreach campaigns, ensuring that the party maintains an active and engaged volunteer base.

  5. Select Delegates and Party Leadership: PCPs often have a say in local party leadership positions and may be involved in selecting delegates for larger party conventions or events.

By fulfilling these roles, Precinct Committee Persons contribute to the effectiveness of the Denver Republican Party and ensure that its message and goals are communicated to voters in every neighborhood.
